Unusual Quotes

“Man, I can hardly think of any other foods I like better than Hummus right now”, Spoken by meat and “manly foods” loving Kevin. A year ago, I couldn’t have imagined him saying that. But ever since our Syrian friend Hadi showed us how to make his Hummus, it’s been a weekly event in our house!

Evan, looking out the window one evening: “Look, there’s bats outside”.
Ellie: “Yeah, there’s bats, lizards, ten tin tints (elephants), and Jesus!”
For some reason, that stuck me as funny. But maybe you had to be there.

Everyone but me

That’s right; I’m the only one NOT in school at the moment. Although I suppose every moment is a learning one, so maybe I am after all. I start more language school next week, so it will be official then.

Today marked a new year of school for Evan, and Ellie’s first day ever. They were both excited. Here they are, ready to go.

At school, Ellie got busy right away playing with toys in her classroom and didn’t even bother looking up to say goodbye.

Evan was a little unsure and almost shed tears, but did just fine too. Both Ellie’s teacher Luisa and Evan’s teacher Patricia had painted and redecorated their classrooms and were excited and eager to see all the kids and start a new year. Here is Evan with his teacher Patricia.

It was a strange feeling for me to be alone for a few hours. I’m looking forward to accomplishing some things without interruptions, but I can’t say I feel quite like this cartoon in the paper today. It depicts a return to school display at the store. Notice the looks on the parent’s faces on the right as they choose the “celebration pack”, and the tired teacher in the middle having to face his students again.

You’d think kids are just a real chore to have around. I admit, they certainly are work, but I also believe it’s our job as parents to train and teach them, especially to know and love God. Here in Spain, school starts for little ones at age 3, and they go for a full day, every day. What do you think is a good age to start? And is your opinion based only on what you know and have always done?

The Rings Unite

Wedding rings came together in a bull ring last Saturday when we attended the wedding of some friends in a unique setting.

The uniqueness continued with an after-ceremony horse show for the wedding guests.

And ended with an incredible spread of food. It was a date night for us while the kids had a sleepover at Pablo & Judi’s.

View from above

Last week we went on the hill above our apartment, so here’s the aerial view. Our apartment building is the one behind the big one on the left. You can also see Evan & Ellie’s school parking lot/ playground area.

And closer up you can see our apartment just about in the center…the yellow building, and on our terraza/ porch you can see a blue beach umbrella propped up in the corner…if your eyes are good.

Life

Although our days can sometimes be unpredictable, at least once a week or more you’ll find our kids playing with their friends.

You’ll also see us greeting our dear friend Antonio on the street almost every day. We love this man and his dog Linda.

Often you’ll find Evan & Ellie running around, playing or fighting, but in a rare moment, like this…

This month you’ll find Kevin in Spanish class every day…pictures coming later.
